The Qatar diplomatic crisis began when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt broke diplomatic relations with Qatar and imposed a blockade by land, sea and air. They accused Qatar of supporting terrorism and Islamist groups, being too close to Iran and of interfering in their affairs, claims that Qatar denied. They also presented a list of thirteen demands, including closing the Al Jazeera network and a Turkish military base. Qatar rerouted its trade through Turkey, Iran and Oman and drew closer to them. Kuwait and the United States mediated, and the dispute ended with the Al-Ula declaration in January 2021, when the blockade was lifted.
