Publication of Twilight

2005

Twilight is a young-adult fantasy romance by the American author Stephenie Meyer, and her first published novel. It tells of Bella Swan, a teenager who moves to the small, rainy town of Forks in Washington State and falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire from a family that avoids drinking human blood. Meyer has said the story grew from a vivid dream. The book became a huge bestseller and was followed by New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, together known as the Twilight Saga. A film adaptation in 2008 started a successful movie series, and the franchise helped drive a wave of popular fiction about paranormal romance, drawing both enthusiastic fans and sharp criticism.
