The Two Towers is the second volume of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which was published in three parts by Allen and Unwin. It continues the story after the breaking of the Fellowship, following two separate threads. In the first, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli pursue captured hobbits and then help Rohan against Saruman, including the defence of Helm's Deep. In the second, Frodo and Sam journey toward Mordor, guided by the creature Gollum. Tolkien himself said the title could refer to different pairs of towers, and he left the question open. The volume was adapted by Peter Jackson as the second film of his trilogy in 2002.
