One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It began serialization in the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997, and its first collected volume was released in December of that year. The story follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young man whose body gains rubber-like powers after he eats a Devil Fruit, as he sails with his Straw Hat Pirates in search of the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. The series combines adventure, comedy and an elaborate fantasy world of islands, rival pirates and a powerful world government. It became one of the best-selling manga series of all time and inspired an anime, films, games and a live-action adaptation.
