Creation of ActionScript

1998

ActionScript is an object-oriented programming language used mainly to create interactive content in Macromedia Flash, later owned by Adobe, such as animations, games and web applications. It began as a simple set of commands for controlling animation and developed into a language based on the same standard as JavaScript. The third version, ActionScript 3.0, was much faster and more strictly structured, and ran in the Flash Player and the Adobe AIR platform. For years, Flash content was an important part of the web, with games and video players. With the rise of HTML5 and mobile devices that did not support Flash, the technology declined, and Adobe ended support for the Flash Player at the end of 2020.
