Premiere of Futurama

from 28 March 1999 to 29 July 2025

Futurama is an American animated science-fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening, who earlier created The Simpsons, with David X. Cohen as head writer. It follows Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy who is accidentally frozen in 1999 and wakes up in the year 3000, where he works for an interplanetary delivery company with the robot Bender and the one-eyed pilot Leela. The series blends humor with references to science, mathematics and classic science-fiction stories. It was broadcast on Fox from 1999, was canceled in 2003, and then returned through direct-to-video films and a new run on Comedy Central from 2010. A further revival appeared on Hulu from 2023, and the show has built a loyal following among viewers who enjoy its mix of satire and heart.
