Premiere of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

from 10 March 1997 to 20 May 2003

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an American supernatural drama series created by Joss Whedon, based on his earlier film of the same name. Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Buffy Summers, a teenage girl chosen to fight vampires, demons and other evil forces, helped by her friends and her mentor Rupert Giles. Set in the fictional California town of Sunnydale, which sits over a gateway to hell called the Hellmouth, it uses horror as a metaphor for the pains of adolescence. The show began on The WB and moved to UPN for its last two seasons, running for seven seasons in all. It was praised for its dialogue and inventive episodes, such as the silent Hush and the musical Once More, with Feeling, and it inspired the spin-off Angel and academic study.
