Origins of Enduro

1904

Enduro is a form of off-road motorcycle sport in which riders cover long courses over mixed terrain, such as forest tracks, hills, mud and rocks, and are judged on both reliability and speed. It grew out of early reliability trials held in Britain and elsewhere in Europe in the early twentieth century, when manufacturers wanted to prove that their machines could endure rough roads. These events led to international competitions such as the International Six Days, which became a leading test of riders and motorcycles. Today the discipline includes timed special tests, and it is governed internationally by the FIM, which runs an enduro world championship.
