12 September 1945

VfL Wolfsburg is a German football club from the city of Wolfsburg in Lower Saxony, a city that was built in the late 1930s as a home for the workers at the Volkswagen factory. The club was founded after the Second World War and has always been closely connected with Volkswagen, which owns it. After many years in the lower leagues, it reached the Bundesliga in the 1990s, and in 2009 it won the German championship under the coach Felix Magath, with the striker duo of Edin Džeko and Grafite. It also won the German Cup in 2015. The women's team has been even more successful, with several German titles and the UEFA Women's Champions League. Wolfsburg plays at the Volkswagen Arena.
