Founding of Swansea City A.F.C.

1912

Swansea City A.F.C. is a football club from Swansea, Wales, founded in 1912 as Swansea Town and renamed Swansea City in 1969 when the town was granted city status. It plays in the English league system, rather than the Welsh one, and is nicknamed the Swans. The club spent many years in the lower divisions, and in the early 1980s rose briefly to the top flight. It returned to the Premier League in 2011 and won the League Cup in 2013, its first major trophy, beating Bradford City in the final. The Swans moved from the old Vetch Field to the Liberty Stadium in 2005, and the club is largely owned by its supporters' trust.
