Founding of Rangers F.C.

March 1872

Rangers Football Club is a Scottish football club from Glasgow, formed by a group of young men, including the brothers Moses and Peter McNeil, and playing at first on Glasgow Green. It plays at Ibrox Stadium and is one of the two dominant clubs in Scottish football, along with Celtic, with which it shares the rivalry known as the Old Firm. Rangers has won the Scottish league more than fifty times, a world record for a domestic league, and won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1972. In 2012 the original company went into liquidation, and the club had to restart in the lowest division, from which it climbed back to the top flight. It reached the final of the Europa League in 2022.
