Paris Saint-Germain was formed in 1970 through the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain, in order to give the French capital a major football club. After early years of modest success, it won its first league title in the 1980s, and the club's rise accelerated after its takeover by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011, which allowed it to sign leading players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. PSG have won the French league title many times, and in 2025 the club won the UEFA Champions League for the first time. They play at the Parc des Princes.
