Founding of Oceania Football Confederation

15 November 1966

The Oceania Football Confederation is the governing body of association football in Oceania, one of the six continental confederations recognized by FIFA. It was founded in 1966 and has had its headquarters in Auckland, New Zealand. Its members include small Pacific island nations such as Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Papua New Guinea, as well as New Zealand, and Australia was a member until it moved to the Asian Football Confederation in 2006. The organization runs the OFC Nations Cup and the OFC Champions League, and the winners of its tournaments play in FIFA competitions. Oceania was long the only confederation without a guaranteed place at the World Cup, until the tournament was expanded to 48 teams in 2026.
