David Cameron was born on 9 October 1966 in Marylebone. A British Conservative politician, Cameron became party leader in 2005 and prime minister in 2010, heading a coalition with the Liberal Democrats and, after the 2015 election, a Conservative majority government. His governments pursued spending cuts to reduce the deficit, legalized same-sex marriage in England and Wales, and held the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, in which Scotland voted to stay. He promised and held the 2016 referendum on EU membership, campaigned to remain, and resigned after the Leave vote. In 2023 he returned to government as foreign secretary, receiving a peerage as Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton, and served until the 2024 election.
