The Argentina national football team represents Argentina in men's international football, and it is run by the Argentine Football Association. The team played its first international match in 1901 against Uruguay. It has won the FIFA World Cup three times, in 1978, 1986 and 2022, and has taken many titles in the Copa America, as well as Olympic medals. Famous players include Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi, who captained the 2022 winners in Qatar. Argentina has a long rivalry with Brazil and with England, the latter dating from the 1986 quarter-final in which Maradona scored two famous goals.
