First flight of Yakovlev SJ-100

19 May 2008

The Yakovlev SJ-100, originally known as the Sukhoi Superjet 100, is a twin-engine regional jet developed in Russia, which made its first flight in 2008 at Komsomolsk-on-Amur. It was designed to carry around a hundred passengers and was the first all-new passenger aircraft of post-Soviet Russia, built with the help of foreign partners such as Boeing as a consultant and Western engine and avionics suppliers. It entered service in 2011 and was flown by Aeroflot and other airlines in Russia and abroad. After Western sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the program focused on replacing foreign components with Russian ones, and the aircraft was renamed after the Yakovlev company.
