Herse is a small irregular moon of Jupiter, discovered in early 2003 by a group of astronomers from the University of Hawaii led by Scott Sheppard. It orbits Jupiter far from the planet in a retrograde direction and belongs to the Carme group, whose members have similar orbits and probably came from the breakup of a single captured asteroid. Herse is only about two kilometers across. It is named after Herse, in Greek mythology a goddess of dew, a daughter of Zeus and Selene.
