Creation of XSLT

1999

XSLT, or Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations, is a language for transforming XML documents into other documents, such as web pages, other XML formats or plain text. It was designed by James Clark and others and became a recommendation of the World Wide Web Consortium. An XSLT stylesheet describes templates that match patterns in the source document, written with the XPath language, and say how to produce the result. It is a declarative language, in which the processor decides the order of operations. XSLT was widely used in publishing and web systems in the 2000s, for example to generate HTML from XML data, and later versions added more features.
