Creation of Windows 7

21 July 2009

Windows 7 is a personal computer operating system developed by Microsoft as the successor to Windows Vista, which had been criticised for slowness and compatibility problems. It was completed in mid-2009 and reached stores that autumn. Windows 7 introduced a redesigned taskbar, easier networking through HomeGroup, window snapping and better performance on modest hardware. It was widely praised and became one of Microsoft's most popular and long-lived systems, remaining in common use well after its successor Windows 8 appeared. Microsoft ended mainstream support in 2015 and extended support in January 2020.
