Creation of Zorin OS

1 July 2009

Zorin OS is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, created by the Zorin Group, a company founded by brothers Artyom and Kyrill Zorin, and first released in the summer of 2009. It was designed for newcomers to Linux, in particular users moving from Windows, and offered a desktop that could be switched to look like Windows or macOS. Its later editions use the GNOME desktop with an interface and layout tool. The system is free to download in a core edition, with a paid Pro edition that adds extra layouts and software. It has been popular as an easy way to give older computers a second life.
