Creation of Android Marshmallow

20 July 2015

Android Marshmallow, version 6.0 of Google's mobile operating system, was announced at the Google I/O conference and released to the public in the autumn of 2015. Its major features included a new permission system, in which apps ask the user for access to sensitive data, such as the camera or contacts, when they need it, rather than at installation. It also introduced Doze, a power-saving mode that reduced battery drain when a device was idle, native support for fingerprint sensors, and Now on Tap, an assistant that gave information about whatever was on the screen. It supported the USB Type-C connector. Marshmallow was the first Android version to give a significant boost to battery life.
