Construction of Parc des Princes

25 May 1972

The Parc des Princes is a stadium in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, on the site of an earlier velodrome and stadium that had hosted the finish of the Tour de France. The present stadium was designed by the architect Roger Taillibert and inaugurated in 1972, with a distinctive concrete shell structure and an oval bowl that put spectators close to the pitch. It has been the home ground of Paris Saint-Germain since 1974 and has also hosted the French national rugby union team and several major finals. The venue hosted matches at the 1938 and 1998 World Cups and the finals of the European Championship in 1960 and 1984, and it was used again for the 2024 Olympic football tournament.
