Construction of Neo Química Arena

10 May 2014

The Neo Quimica Arena, originally called Arena Corinthians, is a football stadium in the Itaquera district of eastern Sao Paulo, and the home ground of the club Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. It was built for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, at which it staged the opening match and other games including a semi-final. The construction was costly, and it was marked by delays and a tragic accident that killed workers. Temporary stands were used for the tournament and later removed. In 2020 the club sold the naming rights to the pharmaceutical company Neo Quimica, and the arena has also been used for concerts and other events.
