The Johan Cruyff Arena is a football stadium in Amsterdam Zuidoost and the home ground of Ajax. It opened in the mid-1990s as the Amsterdam ArenA, replacing the club's older De Meer stadium, and it was one of the first stadiums in Europe with a retractable roof. It has staged the 1998 UEFA Champions League final, matches of the 2000 European Championship and, later, games of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament. In 2018 it was renamed in honour of Johan Cruyff, the great Dutch player and coach who had died two years earlier. The arena also hosts major concerts and is part of a wider district of offices and shops.
