Mark Rutte was born on 14 February 1967 in The Hague. A Dutch politician, Rutte led the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy and served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 2010 to 2024, the longest-serving in the country's history. He headed four coalition governments that dealt with the euro crisis, the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic, and a childcare benefits scandal that led to the resignation of his cabinet in 2021. Known for his pragmatic and informal style, including cycling to work, he became Secretary General of NATO in October 2024, succeeding Jens Stoltenberg.
