Lionel Messi was born on 24 June 1987 in Rosario. An Argentine footballer, Messi joined the youth academy of FC Barcelona as a teenager, helped by the club's paying for his growth-hormone treatment, and spent most of his career there, winning many league titles and the Champions League several times. A forward with dribbling skill, vision and goal-scoring, he has won a record eight Ballon d'Or awards. He later played for Paris Saint-Germain and, from 2023, for Inter Miami in the United States. With Argentina he won the Copa América in 2021 and, in 2022, the World Cup in Qatar, an achievement that many saw as completing his career.
