Maria Sharapova was born on 19 April 1987 in Nyagan. A Russian tennis player, Sharapova moved to Florida as a child to train at an academy and became a champion as a teenager, winning Wimbledon in 2004 at the age of seventeen. She went on to complete the career Grand Slam, with titles at the US Open, the Australian Open and the French Open, and reached the world number one ranking. A shoulder injury interrupted her career, and she was suspended in 2016 after testing positive for meldonium, a substance that had been newly banned. She retired in 2020, and has built a successful confectionery business.
