An American actress, Roberts was born in Georgia and became a star after Pretty Woman in 1990, which earned her an Oscar nomination and cemented her place as one of Hollywood's leading romantic comedy actresses. Other hit films include My Best Friend's Wedding, Notting Hill and Runaway Bride. She also took dramatic parts, and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the title role in Erin Brockovich in 2001. She was reportedly the first actress to earn twenty million dollars for a single film. Known for her wide smile, she remains one of the best-known film stars in the world.
