Dani Rodrik was born on 14 August 1957 in Istanbul. A Turkish-American economist, Rodrik is a professor of international political economy at Harvard's Kennedy School. He is known for work on globalization, economic development and industrial policy, and for arguing that countries need room for their own policies instead of strictly following a uniform set of global rules. His books include Has Globalization Gone Too Far?, The Globalization Paradox and Straight Talk on Trade. He has also studied why some developing countries grow while others stagnate, and he is a frequent commentator on populism and democracy.
