Bob Dylan was born on 24 May 1941 in Duluth. An American singer-songwriter born Robert Zimmerman in Minnesota, Dylan emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 1960s. Songs like Blowin' in the Wind and The Times They Are a-Changin' became anthems of the civil rights movement. In 1965 he shocked folk purists by playing electric music, producing landmark albums such as Highway 61 Revisited, which included Like a Rolling Stone. He has kept recording and touring for decades, with works including Blood on the Tracks. In 2016 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for creating new poetic expressions within the American song tradition.
