Arnold Schwarzenegger was born on 30 July 1947 in Thal. An Austrian-born actor, bodybuilder and politician, Schwarzenegger grew up near Graz and became a champion bodybuilder, winning the Mr. Universe title and then seven Mr. Olympia titles. He moved to the United States in 1968 and became a Hollywood star with Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator, followed by Predator, Total Recall and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In 2003 he was elected governor of California in a recall election and served until 2011, signing the state's landmark climate change law. He also chaired the President's Council on Physical Fitness and has campaigned for environmental causes.
