Alain Delon was born on 8 November 1935 in Sceaux. A French actor, Delon became one of the most recognizable stars of European cinema after Purple Noon in 1960, and Luchino Visconti's Rocco and His Brothers. Known for his striking looks and cool screen presence, he starred in films by Antonioni, Visconti and Jean-Pierre Melville, notably Le Samouraï in 1967, as well as in popular crime films. He also produced many of his own films. In 2019 he received an honorary Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, a decision that drew controversy because of his political views and comments. He died at his home in France in 2024.
