Aishwarya Rai was born on 1 November 1973 in Mangaluru. An Indian actress, Aishwarya Rai was born in Mangalore and grew up in Mumbai, where she studied architecture briefly and worked as a model. In 1994 she won the Miss World title, which launched her into film and advertising. After roles in Tamil films she became a leading Bollywood actress with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and Jodhaa Akbar, and she also acted in Hollywood productions such as Bride and Prejudice and The Pink Panther 2. A regular presence on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, where she served on the jury, she has received India's Padma Shri and a French knighthood in the Order of Arts and Letters.
