Billie Jean

1982

Billie Jean is a song by Michael Jackson, who wrote, composed and performed it, and it appeared on the album Thriller produced by Quincy Jones. Built on a distinctive bass line and a tight, minimal groove, it tells of a woman who claims that the narrator is the father of her child. It was released as a single and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and in many other countries. Jackson performed it on the Motown 25 television special, where he introduced the moonwalk to a huge audience. Its video was among the first by a Black artist to receive heavy rotation on MTV, and the song remains one of the defining pop recordings of the 1980s.
