The 2024 European Parliament election was held across the twenty-seven member states of the European Union over several days in June, and chose 720 members of the parliament. The center-right European People's Party remained the largest group, while the Greens and liberals lost seats and parties of the radical right made gains in several countries, most notably France, where the National Rally won the largest share of the vote. The result led President Emmanuel Macron to call a snap national election. Ursula von der Leyen was proposed for a second term as president of the European Commission, and was confirmed by the new parliament in July.
