Voyager program

1977

The Voyager program is a NASA program of two robotic space probes, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, launched a few weeks apart to explore the outer planets. They took advantage of a rare alignment of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune that allowed a spacecraft to visit several of them. The probes sent back detailed images and data about the giant planets, their rings and moons, including the volcanoes of Io. Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to have visited Uranus and Neptune. Both later left the heliosphere and entered interstellar space, the first human-made objects to do so. Each carries a golden record with sounds and images of Earth, and they are still sending data as their power declines.
