On 12 May 2022 the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration revealed the first image of Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the centre of our Galaxy, about 27,000 light years away and four million times the mass of the Sun. The glowing ring is smaller than that of M87 and flickered rapidly, making the imaging much harder. The result confirmed that a compact object lurks there, as suggested by decades of tracking stars orbiting it. Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez received the 2020 Nobel Prize for that work.
