From 18 to 24 April 1955, delegates of 29 newly independent or emerging countries of Asia and Africa, including Nehru of India, Sukarno of Indonesia, Nasser of Egypt, Zhou Enlai of China and Nkrumah's representatives, met at Bandung in Indonesia, without the participation of the former colonial powers or the superpowers. They condemned colonialism and racism, and proclaimed principles of peaceful coexistence. The conference laid the foundations of the Non-Aligned Movement, founded in Belgrade in 1961, and expressed the rising solidarity of the Third World.
