Rise of The Zeitgeist Movement

2008

The Zeitgeist Movement is an international social movement that grew out of the Zeitgeist film series by the American filmmaker Peter Joseph. After the 2008 film Zeitgeist: Addendum, which criticised the monetary system and proposed a different way of organising society, viewers formed local chapters around the world. The movement promotes a resource-based economy, an idea closely linked to the futurist Jacque Fresco and his Venus Project, in which technology and scientific planning would manage the world's resources without money, markets or private property. Supporters present it as an educational and awareness-raising effort rather than a political party. Critics have called its proposals utopian and its films conspiratorial.
