Release of Windows Phone

8 November 2010

Windows Phone was a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft as a replacement for Windows Mobile. It was introduced with Windows Phone 7, which had a completely new interface based on live tiles and the Metro design language, and it was aimed at consumers rather than business users. Microsoft entered a partnership with Nokia, which adopted it for its Lumia smartphones, and later bought Nokia's mobile phone business. In spite of good reviews, the platform never gained a significant market share, partly because of the lack of apps compared with iOS and Android. Microsoft replaced it with Windows 10 Mobile and ended support in late 2019.
