Wikiquote is a free online collection of quotations, set up in 2003 as a Wikimedia project that anyone can edit. It gathers sayings by famous people, lines from films, television shows and books, proverbs, and quotations on particular themes, with an effort to give sources for each one. Because misattributed quotations are very common, the community works to separate documented statements from those that are disputed or unverified. The project is available in many languages, and the English edition is the largest. Wikiquote is run by volunteers under the Wikimedia Foundation, which also hosts Wikipedia, Wikibooks and other sister projects.
