Uncyclopedia is a satirical wiki that parodies Wikipedia, with mock encyclopedia articles written to be absurd and deliberately false. It was founded in early 2005 by Jonathan Huang and others, and it adopted the slogan the content-free encyclopedia. It uses the same MediaWiki software as Wikipedia and relies on volunteer contributors who write comic articles, spoof photographs and fake news. The project was hosted for several years by Wikia, later Fandom, until a large part of the community left in the early 2010s over disputes about advertising and design. Versions exist in many languages, and the project is often cited as an early example of internet parody culture.
