In prison he meets the Abbe Faria, who educates him and tells him of a hidden treasure. After escaping, Dantes reinvents himself as the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo and takes revenge on those who betrayed him. A tale of justice, vengeance and mercy, it became one of the most popular adventure novels of all time.
