Premiere of The X-Files

from 10 September 1993 to 21 March 2018

The X-Files is an American television series created by Chris Carter about two FBI agents, the believer Fox Mulder and the sceptic Dana Scully, who investigate unsolved cases involving the paranormal, conspiracies and extraterrestrials. Played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, they became icons of 1990s popular culture. The show combined stand-alone monster-of-the-week stories with an ongoing mythology about a government cover-up. It ran for nine seasons on Fox, was followed by feature films, and returned for limited revival seasons in 2016 and 2018. Its mood and its motto, The Truth Is Out There, influenced many later science fiction and mystery series.
