House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama series produced for HBO, and a prequel to Game of Thrones. It is based on parts of the book Fire and Blood by George R. R. Martin and was developed for television by Martin and Ryan Condal. The story is set about two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones and follows House Targaryen during a civil war over the Iron Throne known as the Dance of the Dragons. Paddy Considine, Emma D'Arcy and Matt Smith lead the cast. Its first episode drew one of the largest audiences in HBO's history, and the show was renewed for further seasons.
