Descendants of the Sun is a South Korean television drama written by Kim Eun-sook and Kim Won-seok, and starring Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo. It tells of a romance between Captain Yoo Si-jin, an officer in a special forces unit, and Dr Kang Mo-yeon, a surgeon, who meet in Korea and later reunite in a war-torn fictional country where he is on a peacekeeping mission. The show was filmed partly in Greece and was produced largely before it started to air, which was unusual in Korean television. It was broadcast on KBS2, and its Chinese streaming rights brought it a huge audience across Asia. It is regarded as a landmark of the Korean Wave.
