Launch of JTBC

1 December 2011

JTBC, short for Joongang Tongyang Broadcasting Company, is a South Korean television network that was created by the media group JoongAng Ilbo as one of four general programming cable channels, which were allowed to start broadcasting in 2011. It became known for entertainment, drama and, especially after 2013, for its news programmes under the anchor Sohn Suk-hee. In 2016 its reporting on a discarded tablet computer belonging to Choi Soon-sil, a confidante of President Park Geun-hye, helped to bring about the political scandal that led to the president's impeachment. The channel also produced popular dramas such as Sky Castle and Itaewon Class, and has an international audience.
