Premiere of Black Mirror

4 December 2011

Black Mirror is a British anthology series created by Charlie Brooker, in which each episode is a self-contained story about the unsettling effects of modern technology. It began on Channel 4 in 2011 with an episode in which a prime minister is blackmailed into an act of public humiliation, and the show used satire and dark comedy to explore social media, surveillance, artificial intelligence and virtual reality. Netflix took over production in 2016, and the show expanded its scale and ambitions, with episodes such as San Junipero winning critical praise and awards. The series became a cultural reference for dystopian technology and influenced many similar shows.
