Launch of AllMusic

1991

AllMusic is an online database of information about music, covering albums, artists, songs and genres across popular music, jazz, classical and many other styles. It began as the All Music Guide, a project started by Michael Erlewine and a group of collaborators in Michigan, who wrote and compiled reviews and biographies of recordings. The material was first published in print and electronic form before moving online as the web grew. AllMusic became a standard reference for music writers and fans, known for its star ratings, mood and style tags and its detailed discographies. Its data has also been used by many streaming and retail services over the years.
