Launch of AllMovie

1994

AllMovie is an online database of information about films, actors and television programmes, with reviews, plot summaries, credits and ratings written by its own editors. It was created by Michael Erlewine, who had earlier started the music guide that became AllMusic, and it was first launched in the mid-1990s as the All-Movie Guide. It was valued for its detailed descriptions of the styles and moods of films, and for its classifications by genre and theme, which went further than most film websites at the time. The site has changed owners several times and remains an important reference for classic and cult cinema.
